Unique. For 50 years Bochum has been home to FIDENA, (International Puppet Theatre Festival), Europe's oldest and most important festival for this theatrical art. Spectacular. Varieté et cetera was once Germany's only travelling variety theatre in a circus tent before it put down its roots in Bochum. Creative. Prinz regent theatre enjoys a reputation that goes far beyond the city boundaries. This drama and musical theatre fascinates audiences with cuttingedge, often experimental, productions and for many years has been one of the foremost venues for fringe theatre in North-Rhine Westphalia. Prinz regent theatre focuses particularly on productions that address young people's issues.
Magical. The Lothringen Arts Centre, Bochum's creative industries hotbed and start-up centre, is home to the Zauberkasten or Magician's Box Theatre. This lovingly designed theatre is where satirists, comedians and magicians take to the stage and entertain their audiences with spellbinding magic shows and variety performances.
Diverse. Bochum's free theatres offer a tantalizing variety of drama, dance, performance, visual art and music. Theater der Gezeiten invites audiences to its Sunday matinee literary salon.
